bmc-cuckoo-clock
Cuckoo Clock

From Germany’s Black Forest comes the return of the beloved Best Made Cuckoo Clock, and with it two old friends: the woodsman splitting logs and his companion, the beer drinker. They share the stage with the classic hand-painted cuckoo, whose two-note call comes from a pair of small bellows. Together they while away the day in honest work, the outdoors, and a frothy pilsner.

Hekas makes our clock in Schonach, where the Kammerer family has made cuckoo clocks since 1938. Hekas builds its birch cases and carving blanks in its own carpentry shop; its master carvers take over from there, and every clock is hung and run for 12 to 24 hours before it ships. Hekas also now carries the name of Hubert Herr of Triberg, maker of our first cuckoo clock.

The clock is fully mechanical. Two weights on chains power the movement, one driving the clock, the sound of the cuckoo, and the motion of the two figures. A slow pull on the chains each day sets them going for a full 24 hours.
